"A Delta Diary" edited by Troy (Woody) Woods

Amanda Worthington was 16 years old when she began the journals published in this book.  She lived in the Mississippi Delta on her father's plantation "Wayside" situated on the Mississippi River.  She records her day-to-day activities as well as the impending War.  You will experience first hand through Amanda what it was like to live in Antebellum Mississippi and how the War slowly and forever changed her life.

This is a very interesting book for anyone who lives or has lived in the Mississippi Delta or in the South for that matter who is curious about how people lived 150 years ago.  She frequently mentions Greenville, Vicksburg, New Orleans and many other places and people.  Civil War enthusiasts will find this book fascinating as there are frequent references to the war, battles, regiments and generals.  As already mentioned, Amanda was 16 years old when she started the journals. She gives a glimpse into how teenagers and young people thought at the time. In addition, she shows how she and her friends spent time with each other and how the young ladies and gentlemen courted in the antebellum period.

Amanda's journal's provide historical information, insight into Mississippi Delta antebellum life and promises to be entertaining no matter who you.
